Statement from the CRN West of England July 2019: Research Training

Quality training in research will always be our priority.

We are proud of our provision in the region and how our training system facilitates sharing knowledge and experience between new and longstanding research colleagues.

Recently there have been a number of training events that we have had to cancel at short notice. We apologise unreservedly for this. We know how important it is to receive quality training and how challenging it can be to make allowances for taking a day out of usual work patterns.

We want to assure you that we are doing everything that we can to solve this problem.

Our main challenge is a shortage of facilitators. This means if anything goes awry we can struggle to find substitutes at late notice.

Our second challenge is finding suitable rooms for the training, as they need to be booked far in advance.

We are continuing to work with colleagues in the Research and Innovation departments in each Trust to identify colleagues who are keen to volunteer to deliver training and share their expertise. A call for new facilitators will be made in the next few weeks.

We would strongly recommend applying to be a facilitator; it’s a vital and enriching role.

We are doing everything we can to minimise disruption to training in the future and look forward to telling you about our new training days as soon as we can.
